I would like to thank all the people that showed up to not only support the cancer society, but also to support Black Velvet... Having people come up and say they were here to see us was a very humbling thing...I know all of us in BV appreciated it! See you next time!
Thank you to all that participated in Minot Bands Together 2008. It was a huge success!! We'll be updating the web site in the coming days with our final talley, photos and a huge list of thank you's. We already know we are over $22,000, more to be counted. This is already way beyond our initial expectations, we are overwhelmed with how everything turned out.

So...keep an eye on the web site... till then, THANKS!!

Kim

Forum: Questions or Comments

Thanks To Troy

I was fortunate to have worked with Brian Foley for a lot years and miss him very much. Hardly a day goes by that something does not remind me of him!
One thing he always said to me though was "If I can't continue playing Troy is the guy". To me it was as if though Brian knew the future. I guess those of us that new him well realized that.
I have to say Thank You to my good friend Troy who is fulfilling Brian's wishes! You are an incredible musician!
Also, Thank's go out to Bam Bam and John Spitzer! You guys helped us more than you know. You guys are true professionals.

Kevin

Forum: High Fever Forum

Just a message to everyone that Minot Bands Together has sold out. Thanks to everyone for supporting our cause, the American Cancer Society. This will be a huge fundraiser and a great time.

There are still many people wanting tickets, but they are definitely gone. Some people have commented that they will get tickets at the door the day of the show, but that will not be possible...because we are sold out.

Thanks again to everyone,
Kim

Forum: Questions or Comments

Hey John B.,
do you remember the jam session at the Starlite when that old guy playing fiddle kept hitting you in the head with his bow while he was playing? And then he got mad when you wouldn't let him jam anymore? That one makes me chuckle.
kim

Forum: High Fever Forum

Practicing.....

Wow, hard to believe that it's getting close to the date... with me being in Nevada, I am practicing with my tapes to get my chops back...we'll probably only have a few hours together once I fly in...kind of reminds me of how we learned songs before. We used to all learn our parts and then put it together either during a sound check, or if we were out of town, we'd go in and play it a couple of times before the gig.... I remember practicing "aint going down till the sun comes up" at the Lonesome Dove in Bismarck during the day and the bartenders gave us their critique...made practice a little more meaningful I guess....Jeff

Forum: Black Velvet Forum

How'd Ya Start Playin Music

In response to Kim's question... Well, I can remember always loving to sing all the way back to elementary school. I was in choir and sang into my hairbrush every chance I got. I picked up a guitar in 6th grade when a neighbor of mine played some songs for me and I thought it was pretty cool. I had been playing clarinet in school, but the guitar seemed much better to me! I played off and on till high school, and then met a kid named Rick Mendoza. He was more or less a professional musician as a freshman and he made me really want to learn how to play. After High School, I went into the Air Force and started playing again for the base level Talent Show. I won my category and went to play with the Mouse River Players in Minot for a year, and then started playing in Wilder Days shortly after that. Funny thing was I played bass to start off the whole band thing, which I hadn't done since I was in High School. It payed off though cause I played it in the Jazz Band all through my college years at MSU. Though I haven't played regularly since I left Minot, I still enjoy pulling out a guitar and trying to remember all the songs I've forgotten!

Forum: Black Velvet Forum

How'd ya start playing music?

In another post, Cory talked about how he got started playing drums. Let's hear how the rest of you started out.

I used to sneak in my mom and dad's closet and play dad's acoustic guitar. I wasn't suppose to touch it, I was only 7 years old, but it was like I was driven. Finally in 5th grade the music teacher was giving guitar lessons and mom and dad just let me have that guitar. I thought I was being so sneaky, but I guess you can't be very quiet with an acoustic guitar.

My sister and I had a "band" too. I played guitar and we put together a ice cream pail drum set for her to play. Our first song was called "the groover". Wow, good times...
kim

Forum: High Fever Forum

What a great Honer

I just wanted to say how truly honored I am to be able to take part in this event. With first hand experience dealing with this disease I know how helpless and devastating it is to watch a loved one deteriorate and ultimately pass away as in our case. I lost my Mother and Sister to this. As some of you have had similar experience as mine you know how it can shatter your world and turn everything you know upside down. So events like this that can help someone afflicted with this disease or there family members life's a little better are truly great and I am very honored to be a part of it. I'm also very excited and again very honored to be on the same stage with these great bands and musicians, it will be fantastic to see and hear all of them play once again. So to everybody have a great set and a great time, and keep everybody that you might know suffering with this disease in your hearts and in your mind. April can't get here fast enough.

Forum: High Fever Forum
